Speaker Bios:

Dan Rubin, General Partner, Alloy Ventures
Daniel I. Rubin joined Alloy Ventures in 1999 after a 15-year career in business development, marketing and sales at leading technology companies. At Alloy, he focuses on investments in semiconductors, cleantech, and software-as-a-service. Operating experience Before becoming a venture capitalist in 1999, Dan was a successful technology entrepreneur and also held a variety of executive-level sales, marketing and business development jobs in the IT industry. In 1991, he was a co-founder of Artisan Components and served as the initial VP of sales and marketing. He was the VP of business development through the company's initial public offering in 1998. The company was later acquired by ARM Ltd. for $1 billion. Prior to Artisan Components, Dan worked at semiconductor capital equipment company Ultratech Stepper in many roles, including director of product marketing and managing director of Asian operations. He received a BA in Physics from Pomona College (1982). Current board seats Dan serves on the board of directors of CiraNova, Ensenda, Molecular Imprints, Gradient Design Automation, Teradici, IPExtreme, and Integrated PhotoVoltaics.

Jim Matheson, General Partner, Flagship Ventures
Jim Matheson joined Flagship Ventures in 2000 and focuses on creating and funding new ventures in the sustainability, clean technology and special technologies (e.g. nanotechnology, materials and technology systems) sectors. Jim earned an MBA from The Harvard Business School, a Bachelor of Science (with honors) from the United States Naval Academy and retired in 2008 as a Commander in the US Naval Reserves.

Jim has over 20 years of technology and leadership experience across a variety of organizations and roles designing, engineering and deploying sophisticated technology platforms. He formerly served as a Navy F-14 & FA-18 pilot including duties flying over 200 combat missions from an aircraft carrier, as a TOPGUN Instructor and leading the Navy’s Adversary Program. He also gained broad experience in emerging aircraft & weapons system design, testing and procurement, and was deeply involved in many of the military’s IT modernization initiatives.

Jim serves on the boards of Flagship portfolio companies Advanced Electron Beams, Black Duck Software, Frontier Energy, Mascoma Energy Corporation, Midori, Novomer and Oasys Water and is Chairman of the Board of Genstruct and Ze-gen. He was previously a director of e-Dialog (acquired by GSI Commerce), Yantra (acquired by Sterling Commerce / SBC) and Flamenco Networks (acquired by SOA Software). Jim has also spearheaded Flagship Venture’s role as the Department of Energy’s Entrepreneur-in-Residence at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.

Jim is on the Board of New York-based hedge fund Black Horse Capital, the National Board of the Clean Tech Open, and the Center for Women & Enterprise, and is actively involved in numerous entrepreneurial and venture capital organizations including the Department of Energy's Biomass Technical Advisory Committee, CLF (Conservation Law Foundation) Ventures, New England Clean Energy Council & Clean Energy Center, the MIT Enterprise Forum, The Deshpande Center, and The Service Academy Business Network.

Jenya Medbray, Founder & CEO, PV Evolution Labs
Jenya Meydbray is the Co-Founder and CEO of PV Evolution Labs (PVEL). An advisor to leading solar companies, Jenya has worked on developing methods of evaluating long-term solar panel performance for product development and bankability. Prior to founding PVEL, Jenya was the Senior Quality and Reliability Engineer at SunPower Corporation where he developed accelerated test methods for high efficiency silicon solar cells and modules. He researches and speaks regularly on topics related to the development and deployment of solar energy, including reliability outsourcing strategies, manufacturing quality best practices, and developing bankability packages for large scale solar project finance. Jenya got his start at NASA Ames Research Center's hyper-gravity facilities where he was honored for his support of habitation studies in artificial gravity. Holding two photovoltaic-related patents, Jenya has studied at Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Stanford University, received a BS in Electrical Engineering with High Honors from University of California Santa Cruz, and an MS in Electrical Engineering from Boston University. Jenya is an Advisory Board Member to the National Renewable Energy Laboratory's International PV Module Quality Assurance Forum

Ricardo Angel, PhD, Senior Vice President, GE Energy Financial Services
Ricardo Angel is a Senior Vice President who leads GE Energy Financial Services' West Coast venture capital investment origination. GE Energy Financial Services, GE's energy investing unit, makes $50 million in energy- and water-related venture capital investments annually. Based in San Francisco, Mr. Angel joined GE Energy Financial Services from ChevronTexaco Technology Ventures, where he originated and executed Energy and Cleantech venture capital investments. He previously worked in investment banking at Goldman Sachs and as a technology consultant with CNA Corporation. He holds an MBA from Northwestern University's Kellogg School and Bachelors, Masters and Doctorate degrees in Engineering from the University of Illinois.

[Moderator], Evan Goldman, EIR, Environmental Business Cluster
Evan Goldman is Entrepreneur-in-Residence at the Environmental Business Cluster (EBC) where he coaches and provides strategic counsel to its resident and affiliate member companies. In addition, Mr. Goldman supports Prescience International as in-house Strategic Business Counsel. Mr. Goldman is both a California and Israeli attorney who has held numerous legal and business positions for U.S. and Israeli based technology companies and law firms. Prior to joining the EBC and Prescience, Mr. Goldman led the legal department of BrightSource Energy (utility-scale solar thermal power plants), where he negotiated preferred stock financings totaling over $160 million, processed a $1.4 billion DOE loan guarantee application, and was responsible for all strategic and commercial agreements. Before that, he served in corporate development and legal roles for InsureWorx (insurance claims and policy management systems), Virtual Ports (laproscopy systems), Magnolia Broadband (fabless semiconductor wireless solutions), Rainfinity/EMC (firewall and storage software solutions), Heller Ehrman (San Francisco and Silicon Valley based law firm), ViryaNet (mobile field service solutions), Shraga Biran & Co. (Israeli based law firm), Elop/Elbit Systems (electro-optics products and systems), Fried Frank (New York and Washington D.C. based law firm), and Bezeq (Israeli national telecommunications service provider). Mr. Goldman received his Masters in International Business Law from the American University (Washington, D.C.) and his Bachelor of Law from the Hebrew University (Jerusalem).
