His clients and networks include the leading investors and public and private companies in renewable energy. Prior to joining Greentech Media, Eric founded Sage Marketing Partners in 2000 to provide sales and marketing/consulting services to venture capital firms and their portfolio companies in the alternative energy and telecommunications sectors. Eric has become a well known, respected authority and speaker in these fields. He also was the publisher of the Venture Power newsletter, a subscription-only newsletter covering venture capital investment in renewable energy. Eric's expertise covers solar power, fuel cells, biofuels and advanced batteries. His strengths are in market research and analysis, business development and due diligence for investors. He frequently consults for energy startups and Silicon Valley's premier venture capitalists. From 1988 to 1996, Eric served as product marketing manager for Siemens Optoelectronics, where he oversaw complex product lines and managed relationships with global customers. He then became the U.S. marketing and sales manager for Akzo Nobel Photonics, which was acquired by JDS Uniphase. Eric later served as the sales director for Dicon Fiber Optics, where he was responsible for selling millions of dollars of fiber optic telecom equipment. He has consulted for Merck, JDSU, Coherent, IBM and scores of other firms, governments and investors. Andrew Willamson, Director, Physic Ventures Andrew Williamson is a Director at Physic Ventures. Since joining early in 2007, Andrew has focused on working with companies that are developing products and technologies to enable consumers to adopt more sustainable lifestyles. Among the portfolio company investments managed by Physic Ventures, Andrew is on the boards of Chromatin, EnergyHub, Halosource, Impinj and Novomer. Prior to joining Physic Ventures, Andrew spent 10 years leading materials science research and development projects at the Department of Energy's National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. At NREL, Andrew developed computational models for predicting the opto-electronic properties of next generation photovoltaic materials. At LLNL, Andrew was the project leader for computational nanomaterials research. His group's research activities included nanomaterials, hydrogen storage, thermoelectric materials and battery technology. Andrew also helped LLNL develop strategies for identifying and commercializing new technologies. He represented LLNL as an Executive Management Fellow in the University of California Industry-University Cooperative Research Program to establish industrial alliance programs for new University of California research centers in nanotechnology, micro-fluidics, foods for health, and stem cell research. Andrew has published over 50 peer reviewed academic articles and 2 patents. He holds a BA and a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Cambridge and a MBA from the Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley. David A. Berokoff, Manager of Technology Development, Sempra Energy Utilities (SEU) David is currently responsible for the technology development programs at Sempra Energy utilities (SoCalGas and SDG&E) including: gas and electric RD&D, technology demonstration projects and equity investments in a selected number of small, start-up companies. David also actively contributes to the development and support of corporate initiatives based on emerging strategic technologies. David has over 30 years experience in the energy industry. He has expertise in HVAC, distributed energy resources, plumbing and energy systems, venture capital, RD&D, strategic planning and business development. He launched SoCalGas’ technology venture fund in 1999 and led development of the Sustainable Communities Program in which the utility designs, installs, owns and operates efficient, clean energy systems at customer sites. David routinely collaborates with various government, industry, private, venture capital and academic stakeholders in pursuit of innovative, clean technologies. David earned a Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Cal-State L.A. in 1979 and is a licensed mechanical engineer in the State of California. Brian Sager, Co-Founder and Vice President of Corporate Development, Nanosolar Brian Sager co-founded the company in 2002 and manages the company's government programs, strategic partnerships, and intellectual property portfolio. Prior to Nanosolar, he led a high-growth biotechnology practice at Ernst & Young where he advised private and public companies at all stages of growth on corporate finance issues, R&D portfolio management, and technology licensing. Sager earned a Ph.D. in biochemistry from Stanford University and did his postdoctoral work at Harvard University. Norman Bourassa, Buildings End-Use Energy Efficiency Program, California Energy Commission (CEC) Mr. Bourassa is the Program Manager for the Public Interest Energy Research (PIER) Buildings program at the California Energy Commission. Previous to the CEC, he has 10 years of energy efficiency experience from work at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) and as an energy engineering consultant. He has degrees in Architecture (UC Berkeley) and Electronics Engineering Technology (Northern Alberta Institute of Technology, Edmonton, Alberta). Matt Coldwell, Program Manager Small Grants Program, California Energy Commission (CEC) Mr. Coldwell is the Program Manager for the Public Interest Energy Research (PIER) Energy Innovations Small Grant (EISG) program at the California Energy Commission. Additionally, he is part of the PIER program's Energy Systems Integration team working within the Smart Grid research area, and previously worked with PIER's Environmental Research program. Prior to the CEC, he worked for the University of California's California Institute for Energy and Environment as an Environmental Specialist. He also has spent time in the private sector working as an environmental and land use consultant specializing in California environmental policy. Mr. Coldwell has a degree in Environmental History (CSU Sacramento). |
